Music ministry and through that ministry, membership of the church.

Candidate must be proficient on the piano with the ability to sight read music. Music will encompass the range of a) gospel favorites- including those found in the United Methodist Hymnal and other traditional favorites, b) contemporary music, c) classical, and d) praise & worship.

The musician will become a team member under leadership of the pastor and with the assistance of the laity in spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ and growing the membership of the church, especially the youth and young adult membership through developing and leading the church’s music program; It is critical that the musician be a faithful follower of Jesus, whether newly saved or more mature in the faith.

Specific duties will include:

1) planning and executing the church’s overall music program under direction of the pastor;

2) providing music, hymn accompaniment, and leading the choir in choral selections for the Sunday 11am service and providing/coordinating music for one additional service weekly;

3) leading the choir and conducting weekly choir practice with assistance from experienced choir members;

4) be able and willing to learn to play the church’s high-quality pipe organ over time OR be able to play the organ already;

5) help grow the church by the quality of its music ministry.

Pay and salary are negotiable. Immediate needs of the church require 12-18 hours per week for a candidate seeking a part time position at a specified salary; a part time candidate should have a professional attitude and be mission rather than time oriented. It is expected that this position will ultimately be a full-time position. Those able to be full time are at an advantage. Those willing to start part time and work into full time would also be at an advantage. Part time can ultimately work long term with the right candidate and right situation.

All candidates must provide 1) a resume of all previous education and all work experience, 2) personal references, 3) professional references, and 4) must be willing to undergo a rigorous background check before final selection.

Candidates selected from resumes will be interviewed by the pastor and the Musician Search Committee and will be prepared to 1) discuss their previous experience, 2) articulate their faith story, 3) play two compositions of their choosing on piano and/or organ, and 3) site read and play a) one or two selections from sheet music within the choir’s collection and b) one or two from the Methodist Hymnal.

Final candidates will undergo a final interview with the Pastor Parish Committee of the church which may include additional performance requirements. The Pastor Parish Committee will make the final decision and job offer using its interview and recommendations from the Pastor and the Musician Search Committee and their assessment of the candidates.
