Summary

The Senior Director of Development provides strategic leadership in financial development to advance Epworth’s mission through annual giving, government and foundation grant, endowment bequests and gifts and capital campaigns.

 

Primary Performance Objectives

  • Coordinate with all Epworth stakeholders to plan and execute a comprehensive development strategy that strengthens donor and public relations as to increase philanthropic funding and support from individual, congregational, corporate and government support
  • Increase community support and revenue through personal relationships and marketing strategies that spark engagement in the life of the Epworth community
  • Ensure the integrity, quality, confidentiality and effectiveness of all print material and public relations outlets
  • Deepen relationships with the SC Conference of the United Methodist Church as to invoke a level of ownership and baptismal obligation toward the clients served
  • Ensure the common forward direction of the overall strategic plan for the organization

 

Job Task Summary

 

  • Make presentations to churches and organizations to elicit deeper involvement in Epworth as donors and volunteers
  • Maintain honest and transformation relationship with individuals, congregations, media, corporate sponsors, private foundations and government sponsors by expanding the web of reach through those on staff and through volunteers
  • Oversight of capital campaign and major gifts
  • Design and/or coordinate the development of communication materials that accurately depict outcomes and success stories in a way that maintains brand equity
  • Facilitate the rapid and accurate acknowledgement of gifts
  • Oversee the maintenance of data to ensure integrity and the Donor Bill of Rights
  • Participate as appropriate in the PQI process as assigned
  • Understands and follows personnel policies and practices as outlined in the ECH Staff Manual and/or department manuals and in compliance with the SCDSS group home regulations as well as those outlined in the Fixed Price Bid Contract with the South Carolina Department of Social Services, and the C.A.R.E. practice model

Supervisory Responsibilities:

 

  • Direct supervisor for the following positions:
    1. Communication Specialist
    2. Volunteer Coordinator
    3. Data Entry Specialist
    4. Grant Writer

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree plus five years progressive experience in funds development and marketing
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective public speaking presence with experience in speaking to large groups and/or media
  • Must be proficient with various software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and electronic communication. Know or have the ability to quickly learn any database system required including Raiser’s Edge
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle multiple projects at one time
  • Must be able to pass standard background checks, including: drug screen, employment physical, SLED, DSS Central Registry and Sex Offenders Registry
  • Has a belief system and engages in faith practices that are compatible with those of the United Methodist Church
