Summary:

Provide faith formation within the Epworth community and extended programs through the sacraments, worship, pastoral care and Christian Education. Strengthen relationships with United Methodist congregations and other faith bodies in South Carolina.

Primary Performance Objectives:

  • Facilitate opportunities for clients to be introduced or deepen their relationship with the Triune God
  • Ensure the sustainability of the overall faith formation component of Epworth
  • Equip Epworth volunteers and staff members to integrate faith formation practices in all elements of program services
  • Connect the larger SC Conference of the UMC to Epworth’s ministry and story to increase support

Job Task Summary:

  • Plan and implement quality and meaningful worship experiences on a consistent basis
  • Recruit, coordinate with and support volunteers to lead Sunday School, MYF, and Bible Studies
  • Research, coordinate and connect clients to a variety of faith formation opportunities including, but not limited to: Salkahatchie, Asbury Hills, VBS, etc.
  • Speak to groups on and off campus and lead tours to connect United Methodists and others to Epworth’s ministry and story
  • Welcome and connect with new and current residents, and be seen as a resource for pastoral care
  • Visit clients and staff during hospitalizations
  • Participate as appropriate in the PQI (Performance and Quality Improvement) process as assigned
  • Understands and follows personnel policies and practices as outlined in the ECH Staff Manual and/or department manuals and in compliance with the SCDSS group home regulations as well as those outlined in the Fixed Price Bid Contract with the South Carolina Department of Social Services, and the C.A.R.E. practice model
  • Becomes proficient in trauma informed work and in CARE (Children and Residential Experience)
  • Coordinate with the funds development department on messaging, speaking opportunities, and other development activities.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Volunteers and Interns working with children during church and other faith formation activities
  • Church musician
  • Church Choir

Qualifications:

  • Masters of Divinity, Ordained Elder of the UMC (preferred)
  • Experience in ministry with and to children and youth
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication
  • Must be able to pass standard background checks, including: drug screen, employment physical, SLED, DSS Central Registry and Sex Offenders Registry
  • Has a belief system and engages in faith practices that are compatible with those of the United Methodist Church
  • Able to work with children, youth and families in crisis
  • Honest and demonstrates integrity
  • Understands and respects confidentiality
  • Understands the importance of building relationships
  • Is relationship oriented
  • Able to model forgiveness, hope, and hospitality
  • Feels called to work with children and youth
  • Demonstrates respect for all individuals
