The Rev. Chris Thompson, pastor of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Greer and Allen View United Methodist Church in Reidville, was arrested last week and charged with ill treatment of an animal.
We, as the South Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church, are in prayer for Rev. Thompson and the members of his churches as the judicial process moves forward.
According to the Social Principles of the United Methodist Church, found in the 2016 Book of Discipline:
“All creation is the Lord’s, and we are responsible for the ways in which we use and abuse it.” Animals are “to be valued…because they are God’s creation….God has granted us stewardship of creation. We should meet these stewardship duties through acts of loving care and respect.”
