‘Lifting Ministry Higher’ workshops coming to First UMC-Clover

First United Methodist Church in Clover is hosting “LYFT: Lifting Ministry Higher” – two tracks of workshops focusing on ministry and media and music/choir – on Saturday, March 3.

Workshops include:

  • Music/Choir – Melodie Galloway, coordinator of choral and vocal studies at the University of North Carolina at Asheville, will lead three sessions with the goal of learning three new anthems for the church year.
  • Communicating Faith in the 21st Century – Focuses on going beyond just having a church website, to effectively implementing a broader online presence through social media.
  • Your Church Website: Rethinking Your New Front Door – Covers the tools to plan, build, and launch a successful online strategy that helps people connect with your church in a new way.
  • How to Use Media Effectively in your Worship Experiences – The owner of Twelve:Thirty Media will share practical ways you can use video (series countdowns, sermon bumpers, song videos, games and more) in your experiences – all without wiping out your budget.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with workshops. Cost is $10 per person, with a $50 maximum per church. Lunch and snacks are included. Those attending the music/choir workshop will pay an additional $10 fee to cover the cost of sheet music.

The event is sponsored by the Rock Hill and Spartanburg Districts of the South Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church, the Rock Hill District Congregational Development Ministry, Connectional Ministries of the Rock Hill and Spartanburg districts, and First UMC-Clover.

About the workshop leaders

Melodie Galloway

Galloway holds a master’s degree in vocal performance from Florida State University and a doctor of musical arts degree in conducting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Her experience as a conductor and soprano soloist includes opera, musical theatre, and jazz. She is an chair of the Music Department at the University of North Carolina at Asheville, where she is the coordinator of choral and vocal studies.

Craig Catlett

Catlett is the training and development specialist at United Methodist Communications.  He holds a bachelor’s degree in religion and a master’s degree in communications.  Craig has taught interpersonal communication, public speaking and business and professional communication for Western Kentucky University. He has a background in ministry and teaching classes online.

Carl Barnhill

Barnhill is a creative entrepreneur, motion designer and author. He is the owner and creative director of Twelve:Thirty Media, a company that serves churches and ministries all over the world through motion graphics content and church media coaching. He is the host of The Church Media Podcast and author of The Ultimate Production Team Handbook.
