“10 Days of Connectional Giving”

Friends,

We have a tremendous opportunity to do what some will say is impossible.

Let us remember that the point of our apportionment giving is never the money. It is about doing together what no individual, congregation, district or conference can do alone. Through generous giving, we are faithfully sharing in being a part of the Body of Christ – doing Christ’s work.

We are committing ourselves to a ministry of being the hands and feet of Jesus. It is making disciples, training leaders, creating new places for new people – as well as addressing the needs of children and those who live in poverty.

There is a quote that says: “If it is important to you, you will find a way. If it is not important to you, you’ll find an excuse.”

i-can-do-all-things-through-christ-who-strengthens-meAnother tells us: “Just because your abilities, resources and timing may seem to be lacking, this is not a good enough reason to give up. Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”

In Philippians 4:13, the Apostle Paul shares these words: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

As we complete our annual coming together through apportionment giving, here is my prayer for you:

“All-powerful God,

May your strength be revealed in our weakness;

May your wisdom be revealed in our folly;

May your boldness be revealed in our fear.”

Grace and Peace,

Bishop L. Jonathan Holston

Over “10 Days of Connectional Giving” – leading up to the Jan. 10 deadline for churches to pay their 2016 apportionments to the conference treasurer – we are sharing short stories to remind you what your church’s annual contributions mean to your fellow United Methodists and to those whose lives are touched by their efforts.

We hope this will encourage your congregation’s leaders to make sure they have submitted your church’s 2016 apportionments so the good work of all of the conference’s ministries can continue.

And to those churches that already have given 100 percent of their apportionments:
