The South Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church is looking to hire a Disaster Recovery Foreman.

Role of the Recovery Foreman

The South Carolina Conference Disaster Recovery Foreman plays a key role in daily operations of home repair and rebuilding projects for disaster survivors of Hurricane Helene. The Foreman works directly under the Construction Manager to supervise on-site activities, coordinate with volunteer teams, manage materials, and ensure safety and quality standards are upheld. This position requires hands-on leadership, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups in the field.

Essential Functions

  • Supervise volunteer and subcontractor crews on assigned job sites.
  • Ensure safety protocols and building codes are followed during construction activities.
  • Communicate daily progress to the Construction Manager and document completed work.
  • Coordinate delivery and storage of building materials and tools at each site.
  • Provide on-the-job training and support to volunteer teams.
  • Perform minor repairs and troubleshoot construction issues as needed.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of the job site at the end of each workday.
  • Support construction inspections and assist with punch lists and final walkthroughs.

Core Competencies

  • Hands-on construction experience with a minimum of 3 years in residential repair or rebuilding.
  • The ability to complete construction repairs as needed to support project completion.
  • Ability to supervise crews and maintain a positive, productive worksite atmosphere.
  • Basic knowledge of construction tools, materials, and safety standards.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to volunteers and homeowners.
  • Self-motivated and organized with attention to job site details and timelines.
  • Commitment to the values of servant leadership and disaster recovery ministry.

Work Environment

This role involves regular travel to construction sites across South Carolina. Candidates must be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and performing physical tasks such as lifting, climbing, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position. Work schedules may occasionally include weekend days in order to support volunteer teams and project timelines. However, the standard work schedule will remain within the 40-hour work week.
