The 27th Annual Granville Hicks Leadership Academy for Laity and Clergy is set for Jan. 31-Feb. 1 at Claflin University, a United Methodist-affiliated school in Orangeburg.
The two days of panel discussions, lectures and speakers will take place in the James and Dorothy Z. Elmore Chapel, Corson Hall and Ministers’ Hall.
Bishop L. Jonathan Holston, resident bishop of the South Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church, will be the guest speaker for closing worship on Friday afternoon.
While the schedule of events is still tentative, other planned speakers include:
- Rev. Ken Nelson, conference secretary and coordinator of Clergy Services for the South Carolina Conference.
- Rev. Dr. F. Douglas Powe Jr., director of the Lewis Center for Church Leadership at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. Rev. Dr. Powell also is the James C. Logan Professor of Evangelism and professor of urban ministry at Wesley.
- Rev. Dr. Tonya Lawrence Miles, chaplain and director of religious life at Clark Atlanta University.
- Rev. Dr. Arlecia D. Simmons, assistant professor of mass communications at Claflin University, who also is the leader and “chief encourager” of Look ‘n Live Ministries.
