The Florida Conference of The United Methodist Church is excited to announce a search for a Human Resources Manager. This role will be responsible for managing all human resource functions for the staff of the Florida Conference. The Human Resources Manager will manage the conference human resource day to day operations, serve as a consultant to the conference leadership team and be a resource for the local churches as well as to participate in the annual conference events and open enrollment.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively with free standing committees, boards, and agencies to successfully execute the vision and goals of the conference, have deep sensitivity and commitment to diversity, and be able to successfully establish rapport and build relationships across a broad spectrum of people, including volunteers.

Primary Roles:

  • Administer all clergy recordkeeping processes for administering benefits, retirements, programs, and compliance
  • Responsible for processing and ensuring accuracy of billing local churches for pension contributions for eligible clergy
  • Make billing adjustments in Great Plains when necessary
  • Monitor outstanding pension balances and follow up with churches on delinquent payments
  • Responsible for recruiting, hiring, supervising, training, and performance management activities for conference staff
  • Prepare position descriptions and recruitment advertising as requested
  • Review applicants and screen candidates for hiring managers
  • Coordinate temporary staffing requests and approve invoices for payment
  • Responsible for maintenance of Employee Handbook and administration of all personnel policies & procedures in consultation with Conference Personnel Committee
  • Serve as a resource to managers and employees for workplace coaching and counseling
  • Establish and deploy employee and management training and development programs including new employee orientation
  • Maintain personnel records in accordance with all employment laws
  • Participate in meetings of the Conference Board of Pension and Health Benefits
  • Process Clergy death notifications
  • Assist Clergy/Lay employees in applying for long-term disability
  • Coordinate and conduct various benefit program information and enrollment sessions for employee and retirement groups
  • Run monthly reports to pay fees to vendors and reconcile vendor invoices
  • Maintain the Human Resources website.
  • Set up Open Enrollment and make plan changes as necessary
  • Serves as Human Resources consultant to Conference leadership team as well as local churches, as requested

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, with an emphasis on human resources, business, finance, or related subject
  • 5 to 7 years of direct operational application of human resources processes, policies, and procedures required
  • 4+ years’ experience supporting day to day operations of the human resources department required
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment and labor laws is required
  • Human Resources Certification (SPHR, PHR) strongly preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal skills with ability to present information individually, in small groups or in large sessions to plan participants, local church members and other employees of the annual conference
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software, as well as HRIS
  • Knowledge and understanding of pension plan design and funding
  • Ability and commitment to work some weekend and evening hours
  • Ability to travel, approximately 5% or as needed
  • Ability to maintain a strict level of confidentiality
  • Knowledge of the structure and polity of the United Methodist Church is strongly desired
