Contemporary Worship Leader – Lyttleton Street United Methodist – Camden, SC

Overview: The Contemporary Worship Leader is responsible for the planning and leading of the contemporary worship service by working with our Senior Pastor, Associate Pastor, and Director of Music. This person serves as the leader of our contemporary worship team and is responsible for all rehearsals with this team. Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church is active in the community with many ministries including large children/youth groups and music program. We offer two Sunday morning worship services: 9:00 a.m. Traditional and 11:15 a.m. Contemporary. We often come together for blended services throughout the year. We maintain an active social media presence on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube where all of our services are posted.

Accountability: The worship leader position is part-time, but any candidate who feels they have other gifts/skills that may benefit the church’s mission should be prepared to present those to the hiring committee for consideration of further compensation/job status. This position reports to and is under the direct supervision of the Senior Pastor, Director of Music, and the Staff-Parish Relations Committee.

Position Specific

  • Plan the music and lead the contemporary worship service by working alongside the Senior Pastor, Associate Pastor, and Director of Music using the scriptures and themes for the day.
  • Serve as the leader and directly oversee the detailed planning, preparation, and execution of contemporary worship music by holding productive and structured rehearsals planned out in advance, ensuring the highest levels of excellence in the musical offerings for worship.
  • Strong Christian faith and provides spiritual leadership, looking for opportunities to minister, disciple, and encourage others to grow in Christ.
  • Build effective teams, identify high-capacity leaders, and equipping people for ministry.
  • Coordinate logistics including set up and tear down for rehearsals and worship service needs.
  • Establish and maintain open channels of communication with the worship team regarding rehearsals, services, music, and scheduling.
  • Recruit and grow a musical program through outreach and community involvement in the arts. High level of initiative, motivation, and enthusiasm.
  • Assist the Director of Music with managing all musical instruments and equipment repair, maintenance, replacement, and security.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and have open commination with the staff.
  • Other duties as assigned by our pastors or Director of Music.

Church wide

  • Support and be involved in the church’s ministries outside of music as a way to actively engage with the congregation and community.
  • Serve as an assistant to the Director of Music to work on ways to support and expand the music ministry for the future.
  • Exemplify the church’s values and support its theological direction as a United Methodist Church.

Competencies

  • Preferred proficiency and knowledge of multiple instruments and experience as a teacher and instructor.
  • Proven experience in performing, training, and directing a group of musicians in a variety of musical genres.
  • Knowledge of modern worship music, traditional hymns, and secular songs appropriate for a worship setting.
  • Able to relate to and lead a multi-generational and multi-ethnic congregation in worship.
  • Team Building/Motivating forms highly effective teams, whether supervised or informal where individuals with diverse skills achieve ambitious goals.
  • Driving Vision and Clarity ensures people are on the same page.
  • Proficiency in Mac and/or PC platforms and Microsoft Office Suite. Proficiency in Pro Presenter and Planning Center is preferred.
