Title: Minister of Discipleship

Summary: Minister to the congregation and community in ways that engage and nurture them in discipleship of Jesus Christ

Hours: Full-time, to include evening and weekend responsibilities

Supervisor: Senior Minister

  • Profess the Christian faith and feel a calling to serve in the local church
  • Proficiency in Biblical knowledge and Wesleyan theology
  • Be a caring servant leader who lives with high moral and ethical character
  • Ability to self-motivate; organize, prioritize, work, teach and lead effectively without supervision
  • Ability to connect positively with people of all ages and groups of all sizes
  • Ability to cooperate and collaborate with other church staff
  • Desire to be a productive, contributing member of the local community
  • Good written and verbal communication
  • Proficiency in the use of computer hardware, software, and social media

Responsibilities:

  • Continuously promote the mission of the Church to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world
  • Implement strategies and practices for a comprehensive discipleship ministry for all constituent groups that include:
      • An intentional and effective faith-based ministry that is invitational, instructional, relational, and engages participants of all ages in serving
      • Equips individuals of all stages of faith development to become more fully committed disciples of Jesus Christ.
      • Provides opportunities for evangelism, assimilation of newcomers, and engagement with inactive members
      • Fosters caring relationships within the congregation and community
  • Provide enthusiastic leadership and guidance to committees, ministry teams. and leaders
  • Recruit, train, and support leaders who serve in discipleship ministries
  • Plan, coordinate, promote, and facilitate church-wide events that support the mission of the Church
  • Participate in discipleship activities on and off of the church campus, teaching and leading when appropriate
  • Consistently communicate and engage the congregation and community in discipleship activities
  • Nurture an environment of direction and inclusion for small groups with regard to Bible studies, faith practices, gifts identification, life stage topics, and interests
  • Provide support and oversight of Children’s and Youth Ministers
  • Provide discipleship guidance to the director, staff, children, and board of the St. John’s Child Development Center and provide ongoing means for CDC families to grow in faith and become involved in the life of the congregation
  • Administer, monitor, and ensure adherence of the St. John’s Safe Sanctuary Policy
  • Assist the Nominations Committee in the identification and inspiration of new and experienced educational leadership existing in the congregation and community
  • Participate in continuing education
  • Ably partner with and support the Senior Minister in the performance of worship or other ministries as requested
