SUMMARY:Clergy Care Virtual Retreat: "Followers of Christ\, Before Leaders for Christ"
DESCRIPTION:Followers of Christ\, Before Leaders for Christ\nZoom Retreat\nLeaders: Rev. Dr. Anthony Hodge and Rev. Ken Owens\, both certified spiritual directors \nDate/Time: October 7\, 7-8:30 p.m. \nRev. Dr. Hodge\, superintendent of the Rock Hill District\, will lead discussion on Christ’s inviting the disciples to come\, follow him\, and the odd situations that puts a follower in. There is sacrifice\, the pressure of being different – even danger – but Christ is always there to teach us\, call us friends\, and empower us with the Holy Spirit. \nRev. Owens\, a retired UMCSC elder who works full-time as a spiritual director\, will use the disciple Peter as a model of a first follower – the impulsiveness\, the foolishness\, the mistakes\, the learning curve\, and finally the empowered leader able to stand solid before the world’s authorities. \nReflection time and guided meditations will help participants refocus themselves on being followers of Christ\, in order to be leaders for Christ. We also will be discussing “How to Start a Movement\,” a TED Talk by entrepreneur Derek Sivers. All are encouraged to watch it ahead of time. \nClick here to register in advance for this virtual retreat. \nOnce you register\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

SUMMARY:Clergy Care Virtual Retreat: "Navigating Clergy Bereavement Overload"
DESCRIPTION:Navigating Clergy Bereavement Overload\nZoom Retreat\nLeader: Rev. Miriam Mick\, pastor of Aldersgate UMC and Inman UMC \nDate/Time: October 12\, 10-11:30 a.m. \nWhile the Divine sometimes affords us a bubble of grace from which to do our public work\, at times when the losses and funerals pile up\, it becomes too much. While we want to allow ourselves to model the experience of grief for our congregations\, self-care is necessary to continue to pastor in the midst of our pain and our helplessness in alleviating the pain of the work\, but have not learned to live fully in God’s abiding presence. \nGod is as close as our breath. However\, many of us have not developed mindfulness of God’s presence. The fruit of practicing the presence of God is a life more fully aligned with God’s purposes. We are more able to listen for what God has to say to us. We experience a depth of intimacy with God. God becomes our constant companion. In this virtual retreat\, we will explore the possibilities. \nClick here to register in advance for this virtual retreat. \nOnce you register\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

SUMMARY:Clergy Care Virtual Retreat: “Listening to God through Lectio Divina”
DESCRIPTION:Listening to God through Lectio Divina\nZoom Retreat\nLeader: Marla Fuller\, minister of communication for St. Mark United Methodist Church in Seneca. She holds a master of arts in theology\, with a concentration in spirituality and spiritual direction from Fuller Theological Seminary. \nDate/Time: November 8\, 2-3:30 p.m. \nIn Western Christianity\, Lectio Divina (Latin for “Divine Reading”) is a traditional monastic practice of scriptural reading\, meditation and prayer intended to promote deep communion with God\, and to provide a unique opportunity to enter into scripture to seek God’s specific word for the individual reader. It does not treat scripture as text to be studied\, but as God’s living and transforming Word. Together\, we will explore this ancient practice and experience how God can use the scriptures we spent our careers studying in-depth and reveal it to our understanding in new and more personal ways. \n.Click here to register in advance for this virtual retreat. \nOnce you register\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

We are more able to listen for what God has to say to us. We experience a depth of intimacy with God. God becomes our constant companion. Join us as together we explore the possibilities. \nClick here to register in advance for this virtual retreat. \nOnce you register\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

SUMMARY:Clergy Care Virtual Retreat: "What is All the Hype About Mindfulness?"

SUMMARY:A Deep Dive into the Enneagram - a Tool for Personal Transformation
DESCRIPTION:A 6-week series – Thursday\, July 14 – Thursday\, August 18 from 1 – 2:30 pm \n  \nWeek One (July 14) – Introduction to the Enneagram and the 9 Enneagram Types \n\nThe ancient roots of the Enneagram can be traced back to the wisdom or spiritual traditions of all three of the Abrahamic faiths – Christianity\, as well as Judaism and Sufism (Muslim). In all three traditions\, the end goal would have been\, and continues to be\, what good Wesleyans describe as “sanctification” or the transformation of the whole person – from the inside out.\nLearn details about the gifts and challenges of each of the 9 Enneagram Types.\n\nWeek Two (July 21) – The 9 Enneagram Compulsions/Passions \n\nOur Enneagram Compulsion or Passion is an exaggerated underlying emotional state that controls and drives everything we think\, say and do. It is the operating system of our souls. Our Enneagram Compulsions/Passions prevent the energy of life\, God’s love\, from flowing freely. They cut us off from God and others\, and hence from our own authentic potential.  Becoming conscious of our Compulsion or Passion is an important step in releasing its control over our lives.\n\nWeek Three (July 28) – The Wings and Arrows \n\nYour basic Enneagram type dominates your overall personality\, while your Wing (one of the two types adjacent to your type on the Enneagram symbol) complements it and adds important elements to your total personality. Your wing is the “second side” of your personality\, and taking it into consideration helps us to better understand ourselves and others.\nTwo interior lines with arrows branch off from your Enneagram Type and connect to two other Enneagram types. One of the lines represents your natural direction toward growth and integration\, and the other leads to your natural direction of stress and disintegration.  When we are awake and aware\, both can provide pathways to healing and wholeness.\n\nWeek Four (August 4) – The 3 Centers of Intelligence and the 3 Enneagram Stances \n\nWhen we are born\, God endows each of us with 3 necessary Centers of Intelligence. They are Feeling (Heart)\, Thinking (Head) and Doing (Body). These centers provide a range of information that not only helps us understand our own type’s gifts and challenges\, but also why other types see the world so differently.\nEnneagram Stances describe the basic attitude or approach we take toward the world and other people\, as well as our strategy for getting what we want. The 3 stances are Aggressive\, Dependent and Withdrawing.\n\nWeek Five (August 11) – The 3 Instincts and 27 Subtypes \n\nLike all of God’s creatures\, we have 3 basic instinctual drives that are essential for existence. (Self-Preservation\, Social and One-on-one) They are separate from our personality types and are behind our life strategies\, often unconscious\, yet powerfully directing our fundamental way of being. While all 3 Instincts are always present and available\, one of the three becomes dominant and is more easily accessed and\, therefore\, more easily used than the other two. When the dominant instinct merges with the 9 core Enneagram types\, a new character structure is formed. These are the 27 Subtypes that provide us with deeper levels of self-understanding and paths for healing and growth.\n\nWeek Six (August 18) – The Levels of Health and Development \n\nThe Levels of Health and Development account for differences among people of the same type as well as how people change for better or for worse. By understanding the Levels for each type\, we can see how all of the traits are interrelated—and how healthy traits can deteriorate into average traits and possibly into unhealthy ones.  Our life task\, and an important pathway to healing and wholeness\, is to be mindful of our levels at any given time and\, with the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit\, intentionally move up the levels to restore God’s divine image in us.\n\nRegistration: \nWhen: Jul 14\, 2022 01:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada) \nRegister in advance for this meeting: \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZctdu2hqD0jGd1a-OuSZ9QjRE8bETx1WdO4 \nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. \n  \n
