Director/Campus Pastor – Job Description

The Charleston Wesley Foundation (CWF) Director implements the mission of the CWF, by nurturing and growing disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world on the campuses of The Citadel, the College of Charleston, Charleston Southern University, the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), and Trident Technical College. This is done through direct interaction with students, as well as developing leadership (pastoral, adult laity, and student) to provide ministry to those who connect with CWF.

PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

The CWF Director:

  • Shall strive to live as an example of a mature disciple of Jesus Christ.
  • Shall uphold the standards of conduct outlined for an ordained minister by the Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church regardless of whether they are an ordained elder or not.

ORGANIZATION

The CWF Director:

  • Reports to the CWF Board of Directors (BOD) and the District Superintendent, then to Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministry.
  • Evaluates the structure and strategic plan for CWF to ensure it is remaining in the will of God and ensures that CWF is faithfully and effectively executing that plan.
  • Prepares Conference Reports for Annual Conference and an Extensions Ministries Report (a personal report regarding continuing education, etc.), as well as all other reports required by the Annual Conference.
  • Attends the South Carolina Board of Higher Education meetings each year and prepares a report that she/he also presents at the meetings.
  • Guides the BOD in selecting new members for the BOD each year in order to maintain a robust BOD capable of supporting and guiding CWF.
  • Guides and educates (or provides for) the BOD in their responsibilities.

FINANCE

The CWF Director:

  • Works with the BOD to set the budget.
  • Makes certain that the requested conference audits are done.
  • Works with the treasurer to ensure that the resources of CWF are adequate for the ministry needs and expended within the parameters of the budget and mission of CWF.
  • Helps the treasurer monitor the use of CWF credit and the status of the CWF bank account.
  • Helps the BOD to find ways to raise enough money to meet the budgetary needs.

PUBLIC RELATIONS IN CAMPUS MINISTRY

The CWF Director:

  • Ensures that CWF is registered for and that a representative attends each campus orientation fair (and other beginning of the year events) to promote CWF with advertising materials (swag!!).
  • Is a member of the College of Charleston Religious Life Council and other similar groups on each of the CWF campuses, or is in contact with the appropriate college representative to maintain official status on the campuses CWF serves.
  • Promote CWF through website and social media outlets as well as through a regular newsletter.

WEEKLY EVENTS

The CWF Director:

  • Oversees the planning and implementation of weekly worship and Bible study gatherings.
  • Oversees and implements leadership training and development for all staff, interns, and student leaders.
  • Oversees the coordination refreshments or meals with local churches, making meal schedules and reminding meal providers.
  • Promotes and offers worship opportunities for students at local UMC churches and helps secure transportation.

RETREATS, MISSIONS, SPECIAL EVENTS

The CWF Director:

  • Plans and executes retreat opportunities for the students of CWF (such as Fall and Spring Retreats)
  • Plans and executes mission opportunities for the students of CWF (such as Mission Weekends, Salkehatchie opportunities, and foreign mission trips).
  • Plans and executes special events for the students of CWF (such as Friday night dinners, Fair outings, movie nights, etc.)
  • Plans and executes outreach opportunities for the students of CWF (such as Battalion doughnut give away or Burger Burn)

Salary is commensurate upon education, training, and experience.
