Job Description: Director of Student Ministries

 Directly Reports to:  Senior Pastor

Purpose:  To focus on the spiritual growth of students or youth in Grades 6–12, as you help instruct and train them to understand and implement the Word of God in their lives, especially as it relates to: Worship, Service, Outreach, Christian Growth, and Family.

-A passion to see the lives of students or youth transformed into the likeness of Christ.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Develop and implement effective programs and activities where the students or youth can use their abilities, talents, and spiritual gifts to minister to others.
  • Actively integrate the students or youth into all activities of church life, to prepare them to serve.
  • Lead or coordinate weekly functions of the United Methodist Youth Fellowship (typically Wednesday and Sunday Mornings and Evenings).
  • Lead or coordinate student or youth-oriented events, retreats and other activities
  • Provide programming where the Word of God is regularly taught
  • Provide fellowship opportunities (both regular meetings and special events)
  • Recruit, train, support, and supervise adult leaders who work in a youth ministry team, including those in the Student Ministries Intern position(s), if operating with said position(s).
  • Provide ongoing dialogue relating to the student or youth ministry with staff, pastor, and parents through regular communication or meetings
  • This position requires flexibility in working hours to include weekends and evenings.
  • Encouraged to participate in at least one continuing education event per year funded by the church.

Compensation: Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Qualifications: (necessary skills and experience required):

  • College Degree or equivalent
  • Safe Sanctuary approved/certified
  • Training and/or experience in youth ministry.
  • Dynamic teacher able to teach doctrines of the Christian faith, fundamental Christian values and how to apply these to life situations.
  • Ability to lead fun and engaging discussions and activities.
  • Must have organizational, programming and interpersonal skills to work with staff, parents of students or youth and adult volunteers.
  • Good Communications Skills – written and oral
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and complete projects
  • Set a good example in the areas of relationships, commitment, follow-through and responsible living.
