General Responsibilities: To give oversight and supervision of the youth ministries (6th through 12th grades) of the church
Qualifications: Minimum four-year college degree in youth ministries or related field; preferred three year’s experience working with youth in a church setting. Must have a moral value system compatible with the United Methodist Church.
Supervision: Accountable to the senior pastor and Staff Parish Relations Committee
Specific Duties:
- Recruit and equip volunteer leaders and helpers for all youth programs
- Plan and operate weekly programs for all youth, including FUEL, Sunday School, Prayer Breakfast and AXIS Bible Study
- Oversee Sunday School and encourage discipleship for all students
- Plan and coordinate with senior pastor for Confirmation Class
- Visit and spend time with students wherever possible, including homes, schools, and after-school activities
- Plan major youth activities and retreats, including summer camp, ski retreat and other retreats, as well as fundraisers and other smaller-scale events
- Assist in other church-related programs when possible
- Communicate all necessary information concerning youth activities via monthly publications, Steeple Chimes, e-mails, text messages, website, and personal notes
- Assist in worship when possible
- Hold regular parent meetings
- Hold regular counselor meetings to foster and continue growing team of volunteers
- Participate in at least one continuing education event per year (funded amount included in church budget)
- Lead and support the youth praise band
- Participate in monthly district and regional youth workers’ meetings
- Engage with community organizations as appropriate (example: Family Y, local civic clubs)
Other requirements:
- Attend church staff meetings, worship services, administrative meetings, all work area meetings concerning youth, and other meetings as requested
- Assume all other duties as assigned by the senior pastor
- Prepare the youth budget annually in a timely fashion for the Finance Committee
