Children’s Ministry Assistant 

Description

The Children’s Ministry Assistant coordinates and implements children’s ministry activities at the direction of the director of program ministries. The Children’s Ministry Assistant works alongside the director of program ministries: to prepare and lead Children’s Ministry events, including Sunday activities and special events; to facilitate effective communications with volunteers and parents; and, to work well with church staff team members for ministry to children in kindergarten through fifth grade in accordance with the Mission Statement of the Church. The Children’s Ministry Assistant serves under the direct supervision of the Director of Program Ministries. This is a part-time hourly position.

Weekly Duties:

  • Children’s Sunday School
  • Children’s Church
  • Journey with Jesus
  • Technology assistance during worship

In additional to weekly duties, assists the director of program ministries with any special children’s events planned throughout the year. Examples include:

  • Party in the Pumpkin Patch (October)
  • Trunk or Treat (October)
  • Christmas Program (December)
  • Santa Pictures/Red Stocking Lunch/Dinner (December)
  • Easter Celebration and Egg Hunt (Usually Palm Sunday)
  • Vacation Bible School (Summer)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides organizational and support services for the Children’s Ministry on Sunday mornings and special events.
  • Helps the director of program ministries facilitate effective communication with volunteers and parents.
  • Shows care and Christian concern for parents, children and volunteers.
  • Assists with Special Events.
  • Tracks and maintains data required for Children’s Ministry classes such as attendance records, roll sheets.
  • Prepares materials for Sunday as directed by the director of program ministries.
  • Communicates volunteer schedules and sends out lessons and reminders for teaching.
  • Helps recruit and lead volunteers.
  • Other duties as negotiated and assigned by the Director of Program Ministries or SPRC.

Qualifications

  • Personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Servant’s heart for ministry with a teachable and open attitude
  • History of working with children or young people
  • Good communication skills
  • Organized and hardworking
  • Basic computer skills: Internet, Word Processing, Data Base management
  • Good references and a clear drug and criminal background check is required by Safe Sanctuaries.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual compensation is developed in the annual church budget through appropriate process (SPRC, Finance, and Church Council). An annual evaluation will be done prior to the annual budget planning each year.
  • Six Sundays off per year
  • Other benefits (e.g. continuing education, vacation, sick leave, etc.) are defined in the Human Resource Manual.
