Assistant Director of Christian Education 

St. Luke United Methodist Church in Hartsville has an opening for an Assistant Director of Christian Education.  Our motto is A Growing Church for Growing Christians; we’re looking to continue to grow our children’s ministry and this position will play a valuable role in that growth.  This part-time, salary position will work with the Director of Christian Education and Pastor to provide personal leadership and assist in the development of our children and youth programs in which the transforming power of God is experienced.  This will be done by:

  • Working with Youth Committee to assist in planning and coordinating local/regional outings and discipleship activities for the children, middle, junior/senior high youth
  • Assisting in planning fellowship occasions, both regular meetings and special events, which are fun and provide opportunity for youth within and beyond our congregation to experience Christ
  • Leading by example as a follower of Christ, and serve as a mentor to teens for ministry and leadership, and raise up effective mentors for youth and mentors from within the youth program
  • Assisting in preparing youth for serving as ambassadors for our Christian community
  • Modeling and teaching the youth to apply fundamental Biblical and Christian values to life situations
  • Maintaining good communication with the church staff, Christian Education Ministry, youth leaders, and parents by attending Christian Education Ministry meetings as needed, participating in designated children and youth fellowship activities, assisting in providing monthly communications regarding youth activities (e.g. Facebook, website, email, newsletter) and any other children and youth-related duties requested

Competitive candidates will have the following experience/attributes:

  • Experience working with children and youth
  • Ability to work well with the staff members at St. Luke UMC
  • Demonstrate excellent work ethic in completing tasks, time management, attendance and promptness, or relevant duties as assigned
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be self-motivated and prove ability to work effectively with children, youth, diverse individuals and volunteers

The position will require 25-30 hours per week and can be flexible to accommodate both the program and the candidate’s needs; however Sunday hours and some evening hours will be required to attend church programs.  To apply, submit a resume and a 2-4 minute (maximum) video statement of your vision and philosophy of children’s and youth ministry, along with at least three references, with names and contact information to:
