Sign up today for UMW’s Mission u: “Searching For Our Faith Response”

June 21, 2018

The South Carolina United Methodist Women’s Mission u – “Searching For Our Faith Response” – will be July 26-28, 2018, at Spartanburg Methodist College.

Mission u is an opportunity to study current issues impacting society based on mission study topics, with particular attention to the responsibilities of women in fulfilling the mission work of the church.

Participants grow in understanding the mission of the church in the current world context.

“Mission u this year is going to be great,” said Jean Doscher, dean of this year’s Mission u. “We have interesting, timely studies and study leaders who are excited to be there.”

Each year, United Methodist Women members prepare for faithful living and action through mission studies – geographical, topical and spiritual growth studies that motivate, inform and enrich UMW’s commitment to global ministry.

Mission studies in 2018 include:

  • “Embracing Wholeness: An Earth Perspective to Covenantal Living”
  • “Missionary Conferences of the U.S.”
  • “What About Our Money? A Faith Response”

“I would like my participants to understand that God provides for all of our needs, WHY poverty exists and what causes it,” said Ann Alexander, study leader for the “What About Our Money” study and a past Mission u dean. “I also would like for them to understand the importance of being a cheerful giver.”

Mission u events are open to members and non-members of United Methodist Women.

“If you are looking for a way to better serve your church and community, a weekend spent at Mission u will do just that and more,” said the Rev. Kelly Snelgrove, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Harleyville.

There’s a youth study – “Is it Just Money? Our Dollars, God’s Economy” – geared toward youth ages 12-18.

“Money and finances are important to teach at a young age,” said Deaconess Selena Ruth, youth and “limitless ladies” study leader. “I’m especially excited for them to learn about apportionments.”

The Mission u event also will include worship and singing, fellowship events, audiovisual presentations, and learning as transformation, before closing with Holy Communion.

Resident participants will be housed in college dormitories. Cost is $145 for an adult resident, $100 for a youth resident, or $85 for a day student.

Registration deadline at the above rates is June 30. Late registrations postmarked after June 30 will be assessed a $10 additional fee. Registrations postmarked after July 15 will not be accepted.

Applications for scholarships to attend Mission u also are due June 30.
