Speakers announced for SCD 2016 Evanston

intothedeepParticipants will gather together on Wednesday, August 17 to Saturday, August 20 at the School of Congregational Development to “Go Into the Deep.”  Each speaker will help us delve into aspects of creating congregations that are adept at riding the waves of cultural change that is impacting our communities and congregations.  Bishop Sally Dyck, Bishop of the Northern Illinois Conference, will set the theme as she talks about “Into the Deep.”

Leonard Sweet, the E. Stanley Jones Professor of Evangelism at Drew and one of United Methodist’s foremost thinkers will help us explore the future of faith in our multi culture in his presentation on “Discovering,”

Next up will be Jorge Lockward, Director of Global Praise at Global Ministries who will teach us the nuts & bolts of creating multi-cultural worship in his plenary on “Engaging.”

The topic of “Equipping” will be addressed by Chip Freed, Lead Pastor of Garfield Memorial UMC in Cleveland, Ohio as he shares his first hand experience of creating a congregation that “reflects the kingdom of God in its diversity and a place of sheer grace.”

Candace Lewis, Associate General Secretary of New Church Starts/Path 1 at Discipleship Ministries will send us back into the world as she explores the topic of “Possibilities.”

SCD 2016 will also offer IdeaMarts, Seminars, and Ministry Tracks led by leading edge pastors and leaders.
