The Commission on the Status and Role of Women of the South Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church is hosting a conference Aug. 5, 2017, to educate church clergy, public administrators and others about how to address violence in relationships and how to assist victims of such violence.

The conference will take place from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Francis Burns United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 5616 Farrow Road, Columbia.

Registration deadline is July 31, 2017.

Easter LaRoche, supervisor of the Victim/Witness Assistance Program of the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, will be the keynote speaker. LaRoche is a career victim’s advocate and a member of the S.C. Law Enforcement Victim Advocates Association and the Tri County Victims Council.

Small-group discussions also are planned.

The conference is also presented by the South Carolina Victim Assistance Network and
the South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.

The cost is $20 for lunch and all materials, and need-based scholarships are available.
