Personalizing Scripture

So many times we read our Bible impersonally. But if you are seeking a personal experience in Scripture, try exchanging pronouns to personal ones. Try inserting the pronoun “me” for “us.”  Psalm 23 and the Lord’s Prayer are two good passages for this. But almost any Scripture will do. Below, I have personalized the Lord’s Prayer and added a refrain to help us stay focused.

The Lord’s Prayer (Personalized)

My Father who art in heaven,

Hallowed be Your name.

Your kingdom come,

Your will be done,

-so Your kingdom will come in me today

On earth as it is in heaven.

-so Your kingdom will come in me today

Give me this day, my daily bread,

-so Your kingdom will come in me today

And forgive my trespasses,

-so Your kingdom will come in me today

As I forgive those who trespass against me.

-so Your kingdom will come in me today

And lead me not into temptation,

-so Your kingdom will come in me today

But deliver me from evil.

-so Your kingdom will come in me today

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory. Forever.

-May Your kingdom come in me today. Amen.
